The dimming does hurt the overall life of the bulbs in the long run but really 2 or 3 grows on a bulbs is about the max you want to really put on bulbs anyways. This however intrigued me. There has got to be a simple explanation as to whether it is or isnt safe to do s0up. But to put a 1000w into a 600w ballast pry wont work or could blow up in your face or burn your house down if you left it running.
