Carpet Feels Damp After Rain

Maybe i m going crazy but after a big rain my living room just feels damp.

Carpet feels damp after rain.

Condensation on cold walls and floor in summer. The rooms upstairs are fine. If you don t have a wet vacuum dab the damp area with towels until it s feeling a little drier. Remove as much water from the damp carpet as possible using a wet vacuum.

Work in small sections at a time. Rot and decay of wood headers joists sill plates and columns. Odor mold and mildew. It smells slightly mildewy and feels cold like there might be moisture.

Staining and blistering of wall covering. We have a 2 story home and the ground level is the one that is wet. I checked the attic and there are no signs of leaks or dampness. Deterioration of carpet or wood.

When i vacuumed the smell got worse temporarily. Damp carpet or warped hard flooring. The temporary fix was to rip up the carpet knock a hole in the concrete slab repair the leaking pipe fill in the hole with quickcrete cement and restretch the carpet once it and the pad had dried. We have a crawl space under the entire house that is only accessed from the outside.

When you have a leak in the slab foundation of your home that water accumulates and sometimes has nowhere to go but up. Efflorescence spalling of concrete or masonry. If you have carpet throughout your home keep an eye out for damp areas or spots that suddenly appear. Within a week or so the damp spot progressed to a puddle 4 by 6 feet that a wet vac couldn t really keep up with.
