To my ears the great river preamp is versatile enough to use anywhere on anything with any mic and it will provide a sturdy track in the mix. The great river me 1nv also has a full 70db of input gain so you can take that prized ribbon mic out of the cabinet for a rich creamy sound. Don t get caught up in what s the best vocal preamp or the best one for this or that. Transparency and vintage harmonic structure are both achieved with nv series preamps.

When it comes to sound the often unwieldy low mids that a classic 1073 or 1073 clone will tend to have is much tighter and punchier with the great river preamp. Overall the great river is much more even sonically with less of the overall thickness and weight. This desktop and rackable preamp offers the same definitive sonic fidelity and expert craftsmanship as all great river products. This is why i haven t bought an avalon yet.
