Grhc develops and protects the market by increasing the awareness of the economic social and environmental benefits of green roofs green walls and other forms of living architecture through education advocacy professional development and celebrations of excellence. Projects incorporating a green roof will receive a building permit for the green roof and a standard roof permit for the underlying roof waterproof membrane of the building. It may also include additional layers such as a root barrier and drainage and irrigation systems. Denver s green roof initiative only requires a percentage of the available roof space to be used for a green roof or solar and the required percentage is based on your building s gross floor area.

The green roof permit requires a denver licensed green roof installer. In november 2017 denver voters passed a green roof ordinance green roof initiative which required new and existing buildings over 25 000 square feet in size to install a green roof either as the building was constructed or when the roof was replaced for existing buildings. A green roof or living roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium planted over a waterproofing membrane. The green roof initiative is all about putting responsibility in the hands of developers and building owners.

You can choose to install the smallest solar system that meets the ordinance requirements but then you d be leaving money on the table.
