Flat roofs are ideal as green roof. These systems reduce roof temperatures and thereby save electricity and are great for almost every application including residences apartment buildings condominiums townhouses retail buildings schools malls and hi rises. There are basically three different types of residential green roof systems. The system structure for a flat water retaining green roof consists of a drainage layer with filterfleece extensive roof garden substrate and a vegetation blanket.

Green roof systems may be modular with drainage layers filter cloth growing media and plants already prepared in movable often interlocking grids or loose laid built up whereby each component of the system may be installed separately. A green roof system is an extension of the existing roof which involves at a minimum high quality water proofing root repellent system drainage system filter cloth a lightweight growing medium and plants. A reflective roof coating or white roof is the best known and most applied of all green roof systems.
